Luanda: Around 800 residents of the municipality of Cacuso benefited from free medical consultations and medicines on Wednesday under the Project for the Inclusion of People with Special Needs (PIPE), implemented by the local authorities.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the initiative provided consultations in ophthalmology, stomatology, optometry, orthopaedics, dermatology, paediatrics, and general medicine. Through the programme, residents had access to early diagnosis, medical advice on a range of conditions, and support in addressing gaps in healthcare provision in the region.
Cacuso Deputy Municipal Administrator for Technical Affairs, Infrastructure and Community Services, Celson Dembue, highlighted the importance of bringing healthcare services closer to the population and called for stronger cooperation between communities and the health sector. Meanwhile, the acting head of Nursing Services at Cacuso Municipal Hospital, Armando Cassua, said the consultations proceeded normally and catered for patients ranging in age from newborns to 70 years old. He noted that patients presented a variety of health conditions requiring specialised medical care.
Beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the initiative and thanked the local authorities for organising the free consultations. Residents said the programme had helped ease difficulties in accessing healthcare services, particularly for those who must travel long distances to reach medical facilities.
