Luanda: The President of Gabon, Brice Oligui Nguema, expressed his gratitude to the Angolan Head of State, Joo Louren§o, for his pivotal role in advocating for the lifting of sanctions and impediments against Gabon at the African Union. This statement of appreciation was made following a meeting between the delegations of Gabon and Angola, which concluded with the signing of a cultural agreement.
According to Angola Press News Agency, President Oligui Nguema emphasized the desire for enhanced economic cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the hydrocarbons sector, where Angola has significant expertise. He also expressed satisfaction with the strong diplomatic ties between Gabon and Angola, both regionally and within the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
The diplomatic relationship between Angola and Gabon dates back to May 24, 1982, when the first Angolan Ambassador to Gabon, Dombele Mbala Bernardo, presented his credentials to Gabon's then-President, Omar Bongo Odimba.
