Government to Install Toll Booths and Weighbridges on Angolan Roads

Baku:Angolan Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos, announced that toll booths and weighbridges will be installed on National Roads 100 and 230 to ensure their long-term durability. This announcement followed an inspection visit to the rehabilitation and construction works on access roads to the Km30 market, the Logistics and Distribution Centre, and the Catete/Maria Teresa road section.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Carlos Alberto dos Santos stated that two toll booths would be installed on National Road 230, including one in the Zenza do Itombe area, connecting Maria Teresa to Cuanza Norte Province. The revenue generated from these tolls will support the road maintenance program.

The minister explained that investing in road construction, vehicle weighing systems, and toll facilities will secure a more sustainable future for roads and bridges. National Road 230 is seen as a critical component for boosting the national economy by facilitating access to agricultural and mining projects and enabling smoother travel.

He highlighted the importance of weighbridges to prevent heavy goods vehicles from traveling with excessive loads. Weighing facilities are being installed in Icolo e Bengo Province to enforce compliance with regulations. A new weighbridge is expected on National Road 100 by November, with two more mobile weighbridges planned for National Road 230 by the end of 2026, ensuring that vehicles adhere to load limits.

The minister warned that vehicles exceeding permitted loads would face fines, although awareness campaigns will inform road users of these regulations. He mentioned the ongoing installation of weighbridges in Zaire and Uíge provinces, as well as at the Luvo and Noqui border posts, to control overloading and extend road lifespan.
