Luanda: President Joo Louren§o on Thursday congratulated the Angolan senior men’s national basketball team for their 90-80 victory over Cape Verde, in the Afrobasket 2025 quarterfinal game.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Head of State conveyed his message through his official page on the social media platform X. He praised the commitment and determination of the athletes and coaching staff, underscoring Angola’s enduring tradition in African basketball.
“For another convincing victory, I congratulate the young players and coaching staff of the Angolan national basketball team. The team and the Angolan public are up to the challenge of winning the trophy at stake at Afrobasket 2025,” President Joo Louren§o stated.
The victory holds special significance as it comes in a year when Angola will celebrate the 50th anniversary of National Independence on November 11. The President emphasized that “Angolans deserve to win the African Basketball Championship for the 12th time.”
With this victory, Angola strengthens its aspirations of regaining the continental title after several years and reaffirms its status as a powerhouse in African basketball.
In the upcoming semi-finals, Angola is set to face Cameroon on Saturday.
