Head of State Inaugurates Luanda Convention Palace

Luanda: President Joo Louren§o inaugurated the Luanda Convention Palace, an infrastructure aimed at enhancing Angola's capacity to host significant national and international events.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the newly opened building, which spans three floors, includes facilities designed for summits, conferences, congresses, and both diplomatic and business meetings. The inauguration ceremony featured a plaque unveiling and ribbon cutting, followed by a tour led by the Head of State, accompanied by First Lady Ana Dias Louren§o and members of the Executive. They explored the various sections of the complex and received briefings on its operations and features.

Situated in the Chicala neighbourhood, within the municipality of Ingombota, the complex is adjacent to Luanda's New Boulevard, covering an area of approximately 80,000 square metres. The project represents an investment of around 290.8 billion kwanzas. Notable components of the facility include a multi-purpose theatre with seating for about 3,000 people, a 375-seat conference room, versatile meeting spaces, catering and caf© areas, event venues, and a Protocol Pavilion for official ceremonies.

The development also provides a parking area for roughly 700 vehicles and is accessible via a connecting bridge to the New Marginal of Luanda, as well as a route through the Luanda Island area. The Convention Palace aligns with the Executive's strategy to bolster Angola's ability to host diverse events, promoting event tourism within the country.

The infrastructure now stands as one of Angola's premier venues for major national and international events. During its construction, the project generated over 3,000 direct jobs, significantly involving young Angolans. Initiated in November 2023, the construction was overseen by the Angolan State through the Ministry of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, with the project entirely conceived and executed by Angolan architects and technicians.
