Heavy Rain Causes Teenager to Disappear and Floods 65 Homes

Luanda: A 14-year-old teenager is missing and 65 homes were flooded as a result of the heavy rains that hit Luanda on Sunday, the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB) reported.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the corporation's preliminary assessment, sent to ANGOP today, indicates that the natural phenomenon, which occurred between 4:00 and 11:00 am the previous day, also affected another 325 people from 65 families, caused two trees to fall, and a landslide.

"Around 10:00 am, the Kilamba Kiaxi Municipal Command became aware of the disappearance of the minor, approximately 14 years old, whose name has not yet been identified," the document states. Reports suggest that the teenager was trying to bathe and swim in the rainwater accumulated in the retention ditch in the Golfe neighborhood, sub-zone 10, up to the Rasta neighborhood area.

Personnel from the aforementioned command were mobilized to conduct searches, but they have not been successful so far, due to the strong current of the water and the large amount of garbage accumulated in the ditch.

The retention ditch in question runs through the Golfe 1 and Rasta neighborhoods and extends to Catinton.

Regarding housing, the report details that of the 65 total, 50 are in the municipality of Cazenga and 15 in Kilamba Kiaxi.

It also highlights that the two tree falls occurred in the municipalities of Cacuaco and Kilamba Kiaxi, as well as the flooding of the Cazenga Municipal Hospital, the landslide in Hoji ya Henda, and the slight increase in water in the KK5000 and multi-use retention basins in Kilamba.
