Heritage Triumphs Over CPPL in African Handball Championship Opener

Luanda:Democratic Republic of Congo's Heritage team emerged victorious against Angola's Casa Pessoal do Porto do Lobito (CPPL) with a 26-24 win in the opening match of the 47th African Handball Club Championship at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the match marked the beginning of Group B in the women's tournament. Heritage established an early lead with an aggressive offensive strategy, leading 14-11 at halftime. CPPL, guided by head coach Manuel Alexandrino, struggled to counter the fast-paced attack of the Congolese team in the early stages.

Despite CPPL's strong efforts in the second half, including consecutive goals by Isabel Simµes and Helena Jos©, they fell short as the score stood at 23-20 in the final minutes. Heritage capitalized on late errors and turnovers by the Angolan team to secure their win.

Heritage now leads Group B with two points. The tournament in Luanda will continue until October 14.
