Malanje: The heroic action of Baixa de Cassanje in the province of Malanje on January 4, 1961, awakened the consciousness of Angolans towards achieving National Independence on November 11, 1975, as stated by the provincial governor of Cuanza-Norte, Joo Diogo Gaspar, on Saturday. According to Angola Press News Agency, the government official made these remarks at a provincial event in anticipation of the Day of the Martyrs of Colonial Repression, which is observed on Sunday, January 4. He emphasized that honoring the heroes of this significant action means preserving the collective memory, educating new generations, and ensuring that values such as struggle, unity, and patriotism continue to guide the political and governing actions of the Executive. He further mentioned that this commitment is reflected in the implementation of concrete public policies across various sectors including agriculture, communications, health, education, and transport. The governor urged the new generation to preserve the achiev ements made in recent years and to respect the democratically elected sovereign bodies in the country. "Preserving the memory of these heroes also means forming conscious, responsible citizens who are committed to their country," he emphasized. The event, held in the municipality of Lucala, 34 km from the city of Ndalatando, the capital of the province of Cuanza-Norte, was preceded by the laying of a wreath on the bust of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto. Under the motto: 'January 4th, honoring the martyrs of colonial repression is keeping our history alive', the event was also marked by the delivery of wheelchairs, crutches, and agricultural inputs to disabled people and former combatants.
