Luanda: The Politician Francisco Higino Lopes Carneiro formalized on Thursday his intention to run for the leadership of the ruling MPLA as part of the preparations for the party's 9th Congress, scheduled for December.
According to Angola Press News Agency, following the formalization of his candidacy, the Mandates Subcommittee will verify the compliance of the submitted documents and ensure all statutory requirements for the position of party president are met. The official window for the formalization of candidacies runs from March 28 to October 25, 2026.
Party statutes stipulate that any MPLA members who are in full enjoyment of their statutory rights and meet the eligibility requirements may run for individual and collegiate bodies. The internal election campaign is set to take place from November 6 to December 7, preceding the 9th Ordinary Congress of the MPLA, which will be held on December 9 and 10.
