Hanoi: The southern province of Huíla will host the Regional Conference on Climate Change, Preservation, and Environmental Conservation in Central and Southern Angola, an event being promoted by the NGO Action for Development and Environment (ADRA).
According to Angola Press News Agency, the conference, scheduled for October 29, is part of the Elavoko II and Epongoloco projects, funded by the Bread for the World Organization (BftW). The primary aim is to foster dialogue and share experiences on strategies for adapting to and mitigating environmental impacts in the central and southern regions of Angola.
Anastácia Tchilete, director of ADRA in Huíla and Namibe, stated that the conference also seeks to mobilize different stakeholders to develop joint solutions and produce strategic recommendations that will contribute to local and national action plans concerning environmental preservation.
The event will include more than 95 participants from the provinces of Namibe, Cuando, Cubango, Cunene, Huambo, Benguel
a, and Huíla. Participants will include representatives from provincial offices, municipal administrations, universities, research centers, civil society organizations, family farming associations, and the private sector.
The Huíla Provincial Environmental Office is partnering in organizing the meeting, which will be divided into two thematic panels: “Climate change and biodiversity in the agro-pastoral and fishing context” and “Environmental preservation and conservation and community risk and disaster prevention mechanisms.”
Topics to be discussed include “Agro-pastoralism and climate change,” “The impact of climate change on fishing on the southern coast,” “Government programs and actions for environmental preservation,” “Natural resource management and biodiversity,” “Prevention of risks and natural disasters,” “Agrometeorology and access to information,” “Good community practices for environmental preservation (the case of Benguela),” and “Resilient and sustainable agriculture (the case of Cunene).”
