IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva to Visit Luanda for Economic Discussions

Luanda: The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, is set to arrive in the Angolan capital this Wednesday for a three-day working visit. Her visit will include meetings with the Angolan government to assess the country's macroeconomic situation, as reported by ANGOP.

According to Angola Press News Agency, this visit marks Georgieva's first trip to Angola under the framework of the IMF's Extended Financing Program, which was implemented from 2018 to 2021. During this period, the IMF provided Angola with a loan of approximately 4.4 billion dollars, along with technical assistance for effective credit application.

The itinerary for Georgieva's visit includes a meeting this Wednesday afternoon between the IMF delegation, which she leads, and the economic team of the Angolan government. Additionally, discussions with business leaders and the student community are planned to address topics such as structural reforms, the investment climate, and policies supporting economic growth.

Georgieva's visit precedes significant international events, including the African Union-European Union Summit, set for November 24 and 25 in Luanda, and the 20th G20 Summit of Heads of State and Government, taking place from November 23 to 25 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Angola has been a member of the IMF since 1989 and has worked to strengthen its relationship with the organization through programs aimed at improving national account management, enhancing investment mechanisms, and promoting economic and social development.

The IMF, alongside the World Bank Group, plays a crucial role in maintaining global financial stability, promoting monetary cooperation, and fostering sustainable economic growth. The organization supervises member countries' economies, provides loans to nations facing economic crises, and offers technical advice on economic and financial policies.
