Interior and Justice Ministries responsible for escape of five inmates from Mornaguia prison (political parties)

The Democratic Patriots’ Unified Party (PPDU) and the Popular Current Party have blamed the Ministries of Interior and Justice, as well as the Prison Service, for the prison break that took place on Tuesday when “four terrorists escaped from Mornaguia Prison”. The Ministry of Interior announced, on Tuesday, that five prisoners, considered dangerous, escaped from the Mornaguia civil prison early on Tuesday, adding that some of the escapees were involved in the assassinations of Mohamed Brahmi and Chokri Belaïd. The Popular Current stressed that this “suspicious” prison break was “a crime against state security”. The Popular Current holds the Interior and Justice Ministries responsible for the escape of the five terrorists. An escape which, according to the movement, is “a new episode in the conspiracy hatched to assassinate Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi”. It called for an investigation into the crime and for all those involved to be brought to justice. The Democratic Patriots’ Unified Party (Zied Lakhdher bloc) said that the possibility that parties were complicit in the escape of the five prisoners should not be ruled out. For the PPDU, the political and legal responsibility for this incident lies entirely with the Ministry of the Interior and the Prison Service. The party called for a judicial investigation to reveal the identities of all those who allowed the terrorists to escape. The PPDU (Mongi Rahoui Bloc) said that this “serious incident confirms that Tunisia remains under the threat of terrorist cells and the effects of the dark decade on the state and society”. It stressed the need to launch a serious investigation to establish the truth and bring to justice all those behind this escape, and called on Tunisians to remain vigilant in the face of terrorist threats and attempts to destabilise the country.
