Interior Minister meets Italian and Libyan counterparts in Rome


A joint meeting between Interior Minister Kamal Feki and his Italian and Libyan counterparts, Matteo Piantedosi and Emad Trabelsi, respectively, was held on Friday at the headquarters of the Italian Ministry of Interior in Rome.

The meeting was attended by a number of senior officials from the Ministries of Interior of the three countries.

The meeting was an opportunity to confirm the strength of Tunisian-Libyan and Italian relations and the high level of coordination between the three countries in matters related to the activities of the Ministries of Interior, especially the issue of migration (regular and irregular), the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

The meeting highlighted the joint efforts to reduce the negative impact of irregular migration in order to find practical and urgent solutions for the voluntary repatriation of irregular migrants in Tunisia and their permanent residence in their countries of origin within the framework of development solutions.

On the sidelines of the meeting,
a bilateral meeting was held between the Minister of Interior and his Libyan counterpart. It reviewed bilateral relations in various fields of competence of the two ministries, especially issues related to the movement of citizens of the two countries through joint border crossings, and to exchange views on ways to solve the problems raised.

During the bilateral meeting, the issue of irregular migrants illegally crossing the borders of the two countries and the joint solutions that can be adopted to reduce this phenomenon and avoid its negative effects on the two brotherly countries were discussed.
