Lack of Karting Track Hinders Development of Motorsport in Huambo

Huambo: The absence of a dedicated karting track is significantly impacting the growth of motorsport, particularly karting, in Huambo. This was highlighted by Armando da Costa Guedes, president of the Provincial Association of Motor Sports, during the preparations for the 'Grande Prémio Huambo Cidade Vida'. According to Angola Press News Agency, the primary obstacle to constructing a karting track is the lack of a suitable space within the urban area. This challenge is also affecting the development of karting and motocross schools in the province. Despite institutional support from the Huambo provincial government and the Angolan Federation of Motor Sports (FADM) to popularize the sport and train new drivers, the identification and acquisition of appropriate land remain unresolved. Amid these hurdles, karting enthusiasts continue to train in inadequate spaces. Nevertheless, this has not deterred the emergence of promising talent, with three drivers from the "Fernando Guedes" Karting School currently compet ing in the National Championship in Luanda. Armando da Costa Guedes emphasized that a dedicated karting track would enhance the sport's development, increase competition opportunities, and foster future national champions. Additionally, such infrastructure could boost tourism in Huambo by hosting national and international events. He further noted that a karting track is crucial for motorsport development, providing a safe environment for driver training and advancement. The economic potential of such a facility could attract teams, pilots, technicians, families, and tourists, contributing to Huambo's tourism and economic growth. Guedes also pointed out that beyond sports, the karting track could serve as a catalyst for tourism promotion and economic development in the region.
