Law Amending Customs Code Strengthens Fight Against Fraud, Tax Evasion

Luanda: The Secretary of State for Budget, Juciane de Sousa, announced that the Draft Law Amending the Customs Code will bolster efforts to combat fraud and tax evasion by enhancing control and collection systems.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Secretary of State made this statement during the 5th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the National Assembly. She emphasized that the proposal aims to swiftly address specialization issues, particularly in resolving disputes between the Tax Administration and taxpayers.

The amendment to the customs code is designed to meet the challenges of reducing bureaucracy, as highlighted by the Secretary of State. The proposed changes are expected to streamline processes and increase efficiency in the fight against fraudulent activities and tax evasion.

'With Angola's accession to the Kyoto Convention, revised on 20 July 2016, through Resolution 26/16, the country assumed international obligations which, although they are already being implemented, must be fully incorporated into the legal system, in order to harmonize the National Customs System with good practices in international trade,' Sousa said.
