Kisii County Woman Rep Doris Donya Aburi has urged a section of local leaders to desist from using locals to fight their supremacy battles saying it led to the death of three people during the recent Saba Saba demonstrations.
Speaking during the 7th Donya Charity Mission event at Magenche ward in Bomachoge Borabu constituency Kisii County, Aburi decried those violent demonstrations like those witnessed in various parts of Kisii County for the first time in many years.
This comes even as Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security Kithure Kindiki has ordered all citizens to maintain law and order and ordered that anyone doing the contrary be dealt with decisively within the precincts of the constitution.
‘ I am not happy in violent demonstrations because innocent people die and others get injured, especially when those in power are using them to fight their personal wars,’ Aburi quipped.
She pledged to fight for the rights of the residents within the right forums and called upon all elected leaders to use the powers bestowed upon them by the people to represent them well in the two houses.
Aburi expressed disappointment that innocent residents stood to lose not only lives but businesses and property when elected leaders can move motions in the house to air their voices.
She lauded the residents in some parts of the country for peaceful demonstrations and urged them to hold their leaders accountable for motions passed, or otherwise, like the recent finance bill.
Magenche ward MCA Timothy Ogugu called for peaceful demonstrations as per the constitution and appealed to the security personnel including police officers to offer ample security during the demonstrations.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga has called for more countrywide demonstrations on Wednesday this week even as the Kenya Kwanza government has stayed put that no one will be allowed to destroy property and breach peace during such events.
Aburi cited various challenges facing Magenche including lack of clean water especially after rains have subsided due to poor storage and lack of piped water.
She also cited high incidents of insecurity in the region, gender-based violence, and defilement cases among others.
