Lumakanda Authorities Restrict Boda Boda Past 10pm

Boda-boda operators in Lumakanda and the neighbouring trading centres will henceforth be operating after 10pm, the Lugari Sub County Security Committee has resolved.

Speaking in Lumakanda, Sub-County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu said the resolution is aimed at taming the run-away crime the area has witnessed in the recent past.

‘From now on, we do not want to see boda-boda riders in any of our market centres after 10 p.m. Beyond 10 p.m., who are you waiting in the market to transport? he posed.

‘In fact, most of the motorbikes violate traffic regulations as they lack the basic documents and are not insured,’ Ngungu stated.

He defended the ban, saying it is not aimed at victimising the riders but rather dealing with criminal elements masquerading as boda-boda operators at night, with the sole objective of breaking into business premises.

He said operators who violate the directive will be arrested and charged in a court of law.

Ngungu also warned a section of boda-boda operators engaged in the transp
ortation of illicit brews and bhang that their days are numbered.

He said once arrested and the motorcycle is impounded, they will be taken to court with a letter seeking the motorcycle to be forfeited to the government attached to the charge sheet.
