Malanje: The Provincial Vice-Governor for the Political, Economic and Social Sector, Franco Mufinda, reiterated today the local government's commitment to maintaining cooperation with the Ombudsman in the social, economic, institutional, and judicial spheres. This partnership aims to strengthen the defense of the fundamental rights, freedoms, and guarantees of citizens.
According to Angola Press News Agency, speaking at the commemorations of Ombudsman Week, which runs from the 19th to the 28th of this month, Mufinda stated that the event represents an additional opportunity to publicize the role of the Ombudsman. The objective is to raise public awareness of its history and significance within society. The Ombudsman is described as an independent public entity, with powers enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, offering free support and significant benefits to all citizens who utilize its services.
In a related note, Manuel Campo, the head of the Provincial Ombudsman's Office, reaffirmed his commitment to continuous efforts in defending the rights, freedoms, and guarantees of citizens, ensuring justice and legality. He highlighted that, despite its recent establishment in Malanje, the Ombudsman's Office has been diligently working to safeguard citizens' rights, thanks to its close cooperation with other justice sector bodies in the province.
Campo also reported that from January to March of this year, the Services registered 95 complaints and claims of various kinds. These cases received due attention in partnership with bodies that administer justice. He reaffirmed the institution's commitment to collaborating with its partners to strengthen the Democratic Rule of Law in Angola, ensuring the continued dissemination of the Ombudsman's mandate and powers throughout the province.
Meanwhile, Lourdes Seabra, representative of the Malanje District Court, emphasized that over 21 years, the Ombudsman's Office has established itself as the "voice of the voiceless," restoring dignity to citizens and consolidating itself as an essential pillar of social justice.
The program of activities, held under the motto "Ombudsman, Consolidating Justice and Legality in Public Administration," includes the inauguration of the new Headquarters in Malanje and the virtual hearing rooms in the municipalities of Cacuso and Luquembo.
