Cabinda: At least 100 students from various primary and secondary schools in the province of Cabinda participated on Saturday in the 14th provincial edition of the Mathematics Olympiad, which guarantees access to the national phase. The competition is divided into three categories, the first with students from the 6th grade, the second from the 7th to the 9th grade, and the last from the 10th to the 12th grade, involving representatives from the 10 municipalities of the province. According to Angola Press News Agency, the event will qualify three representatives from Cabinda for the national phase, to be held in the coming months in Luanda, the capital of Angola. Boaventura Macaia, local secretary of Education, Science and Technology, said the competition is an initiative of the Angolan government and aims to promote student merit and academic meritocracy in educational institutions. He encouraged mathematics teachers to view the Mathematics Olympiad as a lever and necessary mechanism to cultivate and insti ll a taste for this subject in students. "We hope that the winners of the competition at the provincial level will represent Cabinda with dignity in the national phase," concluded the provincial secretary.
