Mbanza Kongo:The city of Mbanza Kongo, the capital of Zaire province, has been experiencing a lack of drinking water since Sunday, October 25th. This disruption is attributed to a reduction in the flow of the Luege River, which serves as the primary source of raw water for the local water supply system.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Zaire Public Water and Sanitation Company (EPASZ-EP) has stated that the diminished river flow has resulted in the depletion of water storage reservoirs, leading to a halt in the water supply across the entire World Heritage city.
In response to the crisis, EPASZ-EP has dispatched a technical team to explore the feasibility of constructing a temporary dam on the Luege River. This measure aims to enhance water intake into the system, facilitating the resumption of water production and distribution in the coming days.
The Water Company has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the situation and has appealed for patience and cooperation from its customers and residents. The company assures that every effort is being made to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible. Currently, the Zaire Public Water and Sanitation Company serves over nine thousand customers in Mbanza Kongo.
