Minister Highlights Progress in Agricultural Production in U­ge Province

U­ge: The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Isaac Maria dos Anjos, emphasized the significant advancements in agricultural production within U­ge province during a meeting with 23 municipal administrators, heads of Agriculture and Forestry offices, and technicians from the Agricultural Development Stations (EDA).

According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister highlighted the transformation in the region's agricultural sector, countering the stereotype that the people of U­ge are only interested in commerce. He acknowledged that the province has undergone a remarkable transformation, achieving impressive results in the cultivation of various crops. The minister noted the dedication of the region's populace to agriculture, emphasizing that their focus on food production is essential for their sustenance.

Isaac Maria dos Anjos pointed out the potential for U­ge to become prominent in coffee production due to the commitment of local coffee growers. He stressed the importance of coffee as a marketable product that could significantly enhance the living standards of the population. The minister advocated for a fair distribution of production profits to benefit coffee producers.

The minister also highlighted the necessity for improving preservation and processing techniques for agricultural products, specifically coffee, to foster economic transformation within communities. He cited the international market price for coffee, comparing it to local prices, and underscored the importance of local processing to fetch higher prices internationally. He suggested employing new preservation methods, such as drying on racks and cloths, to enhance the quality and market value of U­ge's coffee.

Concluding his five-day working visit to U­ge province, the minister visited various agricultural infrastructures and projects to assess their progress and impact on the region's agricultural development.
