Cairo: The Minister of National Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, João Ernesto dos Santos, has commenced a 72-hour official visit to Cairo, aimed at bolstering the defense and security collaboration between Angola and Egypt. This visit marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.
According to Angola Press News Agency, upon his arrival, Minister dos Santos was greeted by Emad Abdel Kader, the Deputy Minister of Defense for the Border Guard, Commandos and Former Combatants and Veterans, and Development of Sinai, as well as Nelson Cosme, the Angolan ambassador to Egypt, among other dignitaries. The official agenda includes several key engagements, highlighted by the signing of a cooperation agreement.
The visit itinerary features tours to the Ministry of Military Production, the factory for developed industries, and the vehicle department of the engineering industry complex. Additionally, Minister dos Santos will pay respects at
the monument of the late President Anwar Al-Sadat and honor the unknown soldier. A visit to the House of the Financial Affairs Authority of the Armed Forces and the National Museum of Civilization of Egypt is also planned. The museum, renowned for its collection of 50,000 artifacts, chronicles the history of Egyptian civilization from prehistoric times to the present day.
Formal diplomatic and political relations between Angola and Egypt were established on March 26, 1987, with the signing of the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Luanda. The two countries continue to enhance their cooperation across various sectors, including Economy, Trade and Industry, Education, Higher Education and Technical-Vocational Training, Energy and Water, Banking and Finance, as well as Agriculture and Fisheries.
