MPLA to Adjust Party Statutes at Upcoming Extraordinary Congress.

Luanda: The President of the ruling MPLA, João Lourenço, announced that adjustments will be made to the party’s statutes during its 8th Extraordinary Congress, scheduled for December 16 and 17. This announcement was made during the opening of the 7th ordinary session of the MPLA Central Committee, which aims, among other things, to ratify the documents to be submitted to the upcoming conclave.

According to Angola Press News Agency, João Lourenço highlighted that throughout the MPLA’s history, the party has held several extraordinary congresses that focused on adjusting its statutes. These included the congresses held in December 1980, April 1991, May 1992, April 2011, and June 2019. The forthcoming congress in December will mark the sixth instance of such adjustments being made at an Extraordinary Congress. Among the documents to be reviewed is an indicative schedule of actions for the congress, themed ‘MPLA – from Independence to Our Days: The Future Challenge’.

During the session, João Lourenço also exten
ded his congratulations to the new National First Secretary of the MPLA’s youth wing, JMPLA, Justino Capapinha, and the members of the National Committee. He emphasized the significance of their roles and the trust bestowed upon them by the Congress delegates to lead the youth organization for the subsequent five years. Lourenço noted the importance the MPLA places on the youth organization and young Angolans, as reflected by the inclusion of the first national secretary of the JMPLA in the Secretariat of the party’s Political Bureau.

Lourenço also praised the losing candidate, Adilson Hach, for his responsible attitude in recognizing and congratulating the elected candidate. He expressed confidence in the leadership emerging from the ninth ordinary congress of the JMPLA to meet the significant challenges facing Angolan youth. Appreciation and recognition were also extended to the outgoing national first secretary for his commitment and dedication to youth causes during his tenure at the JMPLA.

The MPLA’s C
entral Committee, which convenes at the Belas Convention Center in Luanda, comprises 693 members, including 101 from its Political Bureau.
