National Assembly passes in generality Amnesty Bill

Luanda – National Assembly (AN) approved Thursday the Draft Amnesty Law of the legislative initiative of the President of Republic, as part of celebrations of November 11 (National Independence Day).

The Law Proposal was approved in general terms with 113 votes in favour, none against and 83 abstentions.

The Bill was presented by minister of Justice and Human Rights Marcy Lopes at the 2nd Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 1st Legislative Session of the 5th Legislature, chaired by National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira.

The Bill will benefit citizens who committed common or military crimes between November 2015 and November 11,2022, with sentences up to ten years.

The Draft Law does not cover intentional crimes committed with violence, money laundering and embezzlement, trafficking in persons and weapons and aiding illegal immigration.

After the approval, the document will be discussed in detail before the final global vote.
