Huambo: The interconnection of the National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT) between Angola’s Central and Southern regions, originating from the provinces of Huambo and Hula, is expected to be completed by November 11, as announced by RNT CEO, Rui Gourgel.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the information was disclosed by Rui Gourgel following a meeting with Angelino Elavoco, Vice-Governor of Huambo for the Political, Social, and Economic sector. Gourgel expressed confidence that the project is nearing its completion, with plans for an inauguration of the interconnection between the Central and Southern regions by the specified date.
Rui Gourgel also mentioned that the province of Namibe will be part of this interconnection, alongside other ongoing projects that aim to connect the province of Cubango and those situated in the eastern part of Angola. The company’s long-term goal is to interconnect the country’s 18 existing provinces into a cohesive national network by 2027. Additionally, the three new provinces formed under the new political-administrative division are expected to be integrated by 2030, with Icolo e Bengo already interconnected.
The manager highlighted Angola’s untapped electrical potential, suggesting the nation could become a key energy supplier within Southern and Central Africa, distributing energy to other countries across the continent.
