Luanda:At least 3 million Angolan citizens have updated their electoral data through the proof-of-life process since June, out of more than 16 million expected to be registered. This information was shared by the Secretary of State for Local Authorities, Fernando Manuel, during a registration campaign event in Luanda.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the registration campaign commenced on Saturday in four municipalities of Luanda. Fernando Manuel noted that the process was moving forward satisfactorily and would be enhanced through a new awareness-raising initiative.
Participation in the campaign has been strong, reflecting successful outreach efforts. Fernando Manuel emphasized the importance of electoral registration and data updating for citizens to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He expressed optimism that the awareness campaign would encourage more people to update their data.
The campaign, running until December across the country, aims to mobilize over 5 million citizens of voting age. On October 3rd, it reached the municipalities of Kilamba, Viana, Cazenga, and Cacuaco, where many Luanda residents aged 18 or over participated.
This initiative, a collaborative effort by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MAT), the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (MINJUSDH), and provincial governments, seeks to enhance civic participation. It aims to inform citizens about their legal obligations to update personal data and provide information about the locations of BUAPs and Identification Posts.
The Electoral Registration process began on June 15, 2026, and will conclude on March 31, 2027. It ensures the registration of all eligible Angolan citizens aged 18 or over, allowing them to vote in the general elections. This process is crucial for determining the number of eligible voters both in Angola and abroad. The Angolan Government's goal is to verify and update the data of 16,770,455 citizens, with over 5 million residing in Luanda.
