New Year’s Eve: Hotel bookings in the Djerba-Zarzis tourist area reach 10,000

Hotel bookings in the Djerba-Zarzis tourist area (Medenine governorate) for New Year’s Eve have so far reached 10,000, the local tourism delegate in Medenine, Hichem Mahouachi, told TAP on Thursday.

This number will increase in the region, where bookings are estimated to be between 12,500 and 13,000, he added, pointing out that the occupancy rate in the region’s hotels will reach 60%, the same as last season.

The official went on to say that, as part of a monitoring programme launched at the beginning of December, the region’s tourist facilities, particularly hotels, restaurants and amusement parks, are being inspected to ensure compliance with hygiene regulations and quality of service, and to maintain the appeal and reputation of the Djerba-Zarzis destination.

From the beginning of 2023 until December 20, the number of tourist arrivals in the Djerba-Zarzis tourist area has reached 1.110 million visitors, up 12% compared to the same period last year.

The number of overnight stays also rose by 24% to 6.3
50 million.
