Parliament lifts immunity of MP Sami Ben Abdelali after in-camera session

The Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP) has announced the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of MP Sami Ben Abdelali (constituency of expats in Italy), following a request submitted by the Ministry of Justice. In accordance with the rules of procedure, which stipulate that meetings concerning immunity are held in strict confidentiality, the Parliament convened an in-camera plenary session on Tuesday to consider lifting the immunity of MP Abdelali. Forty-eight MPs voted in favour, 32 against and two abstained. According to Article 27 of the ARP's Statute, the decision to lift immunity is taken by the majority of MPs present.
