Parliament Speaker to Participate in SADC Parliamentary Forum in Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, is set to participate in the 57th plenary session of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) parliamentary forum in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, commencing on June 2.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan delegation accompanying Cerqueira includes deputies Lu­sa Damio, Ruth Mendes, Pedro Sebastio, Domingos Mussokola, and Teresa Neto. The session, which concludes on June 7, is themed 'Using Artificial Intelligence for Effective Parliamentary Processes in the SADC Region: Experiences, Challenges, and Opportunities.'

During the event, reports from various working committees of the Forum will be presented and analyzed. This includes the Committee on Trade, Industry, Finance, and Investment, chaired by Angolan Deputy Ruth Adriano Mendes.

In his capacity as President of the host country and of the SADC, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, will deliver the opening address at the 57th Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum.

The SADC Parliamentary Forum is a regional interparliamentary organization comprising members from 14 national parliaments in southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Seychelles, Eswatini, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Established on September 8, 1997, the Forum's main objective is to provide a platform for dialogue that supports and improves regional integration through parliamentary participation, as well as to promote best practices in the role of parliaments in regional integration and cooperation.
