Planadesporto Launches Coach Training Program in Cuito to Enhance Sports Quality in Central and Eastern Regions

Cuito: Forty-five aspiring sports coaches from the provinces of Bié, Cuando, Cubango, and Moxico are taking part, from today, in a training programme in the city of Cuito as part of the National Sports Development Plan (Planadesporto). The training, now in its third edition, aims to strengthen the technical and methodological base of local staff and ensure higher quality in teaching and popularizing sports in communities in the Central, Southern, and Eastern regions of the country. According to Angola Press News Agency, the first and second editions of the program, held in March and September 2025, successfully trained 50 and 49 monitors, respectively, from these provinces. The current session sees a slight reduction in participant numbers due to the transfer of the province of Moxico Leste to the region headquartered in Malanje. The training concludes on the 30th of this month, covering areas such as training planning, first aid in sports, team management, ethics and Olympic values, and practices for common regional sports. José Fernando Tchatuvela highlighted the ongoing organizational challenges within the country's sports sector, noting that the practice of sports by thousands of teenagers and young people often lacks planning and results in distorted outcomes. He emphasized the importance of developing policies to organize and reinforce sports, which he views as crucial for the nation's social and economic life, as well as for its international self-affirmation. Tchatuvela also stressed the need to integrate physical culture and sports practice into elementary education and other educational levels. Planadesporto, aligned with the National Development Plan 2023-2027 (PDN 2023-2027), aims to support the Generalization of Sports Practice and Improvement of High-Performance Sports Program. It seeks to enhance sports participation and quality in school and community settings while addressing infrastructure, sports medicine, and personnel training to boost the sector and improve competition indices.
