Luanda: A total of 479,999 children under five years of age are to be immunized against polio in the central province of Bi© during the first phase of the vaccination campaign, taking place from March 26th to 28th.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the information was made official on Wednesday by the head of the Public Health Department in the province of Bi©, Isaas Cambissa, who stated that 651,800 doses of monovalent vaccines are available. The current campaign involves 873 teams, with 3,196 individuals, including vaccinators, registrars, advisors, supervisors, monitors, and mobilizers.
The vaccination drive will cover all 19 municipalities of the province, with the possibility of extending the dates to benefit children in hard-to-reach areas. The activity will be carried out door-to-door, with the possibility of setting up some fixed posts and mobile teams (with motorcycles), which, in addition to vaccinating, will reinforce the mobilization of parents and guardians about the importance of vaccination.
Isaas Cambissa took the opportunity to invite social institutions to raise awareness among the population to participate in the process. The second phase of the campaign is scheduled for May of the current year.
During the past year (2025), the country registered 62 cases of the disease, in the provinces of Bi©, Benguela, Huambo, Cuando, Cubango, and Cuanza-Norte.
