Luanda: The FNLA, PHA, and PRS parties advocated, on Wednesday in the National Assembly, for increased investment in social sectors and in the training of personnel, as well as greater rigor in the execution and oversight of public spending.
According to Angola Press News Agency, in presenting their political statements during the review of the General State Account, FNLA MP Nimi a Simbi acknowledged the progress made by Angola in expanding hospital infrastructure, but advocated for increased investment in human capital training to keep pace with the technological evolution of the health sector. Regarding the implementation of the Cybersecurity Law, the party also called on the Angolan state to strengthen the technical training of personnel in order to prevent vulnerabilities similar to those seen in the Unitel case, an incident that constitutes a serious threat to the country’s internal security.
In turn, the MP from the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), Florbela Malaquias, advocated for the continuous strengthening of public investment in education, considering that the sector should be an absolute priority for the country’s development. The parliamentarian also highlighted the need to continuously value the health and social protection sectors, considering that it is not enough to foresee resources in the General State Budget (OGE). However, the deputy said, it is essential to guarantee the full execution of the projects included in the Public Investment Program (PIP). Florbela Malaquias also stated that Angola’s economic sovereignty depends on the harmony between financial sustainability and social justice.
The deputy from the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Benedito Daniel, defended a rigorous assessment of the General State Account, considering it an important instrument of democratic control and public accountability. In his political statement, the parliamentarian stated that this mechanism contributes to improving the quality of public spending, reducing deviations in budget execution, and strengthening compliance with the objectives defined in the General State Budget. Benedito Daniel also highlighted that the analysis of the General State Account is fundamental to safeguarding the credibility of budget execution, strengthening citizens’ trust in institutions, and consolidating good governance, and should be carried out with impartiality, a sense of state, and a high spirit of responsibility.
The General State Account (CGE) is the main official accountability document of the government. It demonstrates in detail how public money was collected and spent, reflecting the entire execution of the budget, the management of assets, and the financial situation of the country throughout an economic year.
