Dar es Salaam:Luanda President João Lourenço of Angola departed for Tanzania on Wednesday for a state visit scheduled for October 29 and 30, where new legal instruments are anticipated to be signed. At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport in Luanda, he was seen off by Vice President Esperança da Costa and other government officials, accompanied by First Lady Ana Dias Lourenço.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the visit follows an invitation from Tanzania's President, Samia Suluhu Hassan. The agenda for October 29 includes official talks in Dar es Salaam between delegations from both nations, culminating in the signing of new agreements. The following day, President Lourenço is set to travel to Dodoma, with his return to Angola planned for later that afternoon.
Angola and Tanzania boast a strong historical relationship, rooted in their collaborative efforts during Africa's liberation struggles. They established diplomatic ties in 1976, a year after Angola's independence, and have since developed robust bilateral cooperation. The visit coincides with Tanzania's plans to reopen its embassy in Angola by 2027, aiming to enhance political-diplomatic relations and economic cooperation.
During a recent meeting at the IV Luanda Biennale, Angola's Minister of External Relations, Téte António, and Tanzania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, discussed connecting Tanzania to the Lobito Corridor for regional trade facilitation. They also explored opportunities in mineral resources, reflecting both nations' interest in strengthening economic relations. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo commended President Lourenço for his efforts in advancing peace and reconciliation across Africa in his capacity as the African Union Champion for Peace and Reconciliation.
