President João Lourenço invited to attend 77+China Group Summit

Angolan head of State João Lourenço was invited Monday to visit Cuba in order to participate in the Summit of the Group of 77+China to take place in Havana between 15 and 16 September.

João Lourenço received the invitation from his Cuban counterpart Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, who has been in Luanda since Sunday for a three-day official visit to Angola, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Group of 77+China is a coalition of countries founded in 1964.

The goal is to promote the collective economic interests of the members as well as creating a greater capacity for joint negotiation.

Angola and Cuba maintain excellent cooperation relations in various areas such as security, education, health, transport, public works, construction, oil, sports, culture, tourism and agriculture.

The two States established diplomatic ties on November 15, 1975, four days after Angola’s independence.

One year later, the two countries signed the General Cooperation Agreement, which gave rise to the Bilateral Commission.

Many Angolan students benefitted from training in the Caribbean State.
