Djibouti: The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, has called for the recognition and accreditation of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) as the African Union (AU) Regional Mechanism for the Prevention, Management, and Resolution of Conflicts in Africa.
According to Angola Press News Agency, this intention was conveyed through a letter from President Lourenço, which was delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, to Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairman of the African Union Commission. The delivery took place during the 3rd Africa-Turkey Review Ministerial Conference in Djibouti, which concluded on Sunday.
The message from the Angolan Head of State reflects his role as the chairperson of the ICGLR, emphasizing the importance of the organization in addressing and resolving conflicts within the continent.
