President Joo Louren§o Sends Message to Djiboutian Counterpart

Luanda: Angolan President Joo Louren§o sent a message to his Djiboutian counterpart, Ismal Guelleh, highlighting Angola's intention to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan Embassy in Ethiopia released a statement indicating that the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendon§a, delivered the message on behalf of President Louren§o in the Djiboutian capital this past Saturday. The message was conveyed during the inauguration ceremony of President Ismal Guelleh, who was re-elected for his sixth term.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by various Heads of State and Government, including the Presidents of Somalia, South Sudan, and Gabon, along with the Prime Ministers of Ethiopia and Egypt. Also present were the President of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and the Executive Secretary of IGAD. Ismal Omar Guelleh, at 78 years old, secured a significant victory with 97.8% of the votes, as confirmed by the Constitutional Council.

In February 2024, Angola and Djibouti signed agreements that cover visa exemptions for diplomatic passports, economic and scientific cooperation, and political consultations. The partnership aims to enhance strategic sectors such as port logistics and security, leveraging the advantageous geographic locations of both countries.
