President Joo Louren§o Advocates for Empowerment of AUDA-NEPAD

El Alamein:Angolan President Joo Louren§o has called for definitive actions to equip the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) with the necessary tools to achieve its mission for the next 25 years.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Louren§o made these remarks during the opening of the Summit of the Founding States of AUDA-NEPAD in El Alamein, Egypt. He emphasized the importance of increasing African ownership of AUDA-NEPAD and advocated for a regular process of development, leadership, and strategic guidance for the organization.

Louren§o highlighted the ongoing need for leadership akin to that which was crucial during NEPAD's inception in 2001, to ensure that AUDA-NEPAD is equipped to face future challenges. He expressed hope that the Summit would initiate a continuous process of development and strategic guidance for the agency's future.

The Angolan President also mentioned that the meeting should not only celebrate past achievements but serve as a chance to enhance African ownership and renew state commitments to the institution.

In addition to the summit, Louren§o met with George Elombi, President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), to discuss economic topics such as support for small and medium-sized enterprises, project financing in Angola, and pharmaceutical production in the Special Economic Zone.

His agenda in El Alamein also included participation in the Africa-El Alamein Forum, which focuses on boosting cooperation, investment, and economic development across Africa. Louren§o's visit continues with the 8th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting between the African Union, Regional Economic Communities, and Regional Mechanisms, aimed at enhancing coordination in line with the goals of Agenda 2063.
