President Joo Louren§o Expresses Dismay Over Earthquake Victims in Colombia

Luanda: Angolan President Joo Louren§o expressed dismay on Tuesday regarding the tragedy caused by the earthquake that struck Colombia, leaving at least 176 dead and more than 2,000 injured. In a message addressed to his Colombian counterpart, Abelardo Gabriel de La Espriella, the Head of State expressed, on behalf of the Angolan government and himself, deep solidarity with the Colombian people in the wake of the disaster.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the country on Monday, hitting the western region hardest; it caused extensive material damage and mobilized relief and rescue teams. Joo Louren§o expressed his conviction that Colombian authorities would make every effort to provide assistance to the victims and minimize the pain and suffering caused by the tragedy.

"Please accept the expression of our friendship and sympathy during this time of great hardship facing the Colombian people," reads the President's message.
