Cazombo: President Joo Louren§o assured the people of Moxico Leste on Friday that he will bring the province out of isolation and bring socioeconomic development to the region. Addressing the population of Cazombo during his visit to this new province, the president said that 'in a few years' time, you will undoubtedly see that the Cazombo of today will not be the same as tomorrow. We will bring development to this new province, not only to the city of Cazombo, but to all the municipalities in this new province.' the president said.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Louren§o stated the government's commitment to building a new airport to replace the current dirt runway aerodrome, which is currently suitable only for small aircraft. Improvements are also planned for the health sector, with the construction of new infrastructure throughout the province, particularly the Cazombo Hospital, which aims to end the transfer of patients to the city of Luena.
In the education sector, the network of schools, especially primary schools, will be increased to incorporate more children into the education system. The president acknowledged that the current number of educational facilities is insufficient. Regarding energy supply, Louren§o, who visited the site of the future photovoltaic power plant, mentioned that Cazombo will benefit from 25 MW of clean energy in the coming years.
President Louren§o announced plans for the construction of water collection and treatment facilities. The rehabilitation of national road 192, the only land entrance and exit to Moxico Leste, was also announced. This road connects the region to the rest of the country, passing through Luau. The president acknowledged the challenges posed by the region's heavy rainfall and extensive wetlands, which necessitate constant road rehabilitation.
He revealed the decision to add two more companies to the project, increasing the number of contractors working on the Cazombo-Luau road to three. 'So, development is coming. From year to year, you will notice the difference. We will come back here more often. But I would like to come here one day, landing in Luau and driving to Cazombo,' Louren§o said.
During his visit, President Louren§o handed over vehicles to the local government to support the administration of the province, including water tankers and ambulances. He also met with the local government, along with the central government, and participated in the laying of the first stone for the construction of the newly created city of Cazombo.
