Luanda: Angolan President Joo Louren§o on Friday evening attended the Gala of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) in Luanda as a guest of honor. The event aimed to mobilize funds for the implementation of the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the gala dinner followed the launch of the "Building Resilience for Women and Girls" campaign, an initiative by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Louren§o. This campaign seeks to strengthen the capacity of African women and girls to face situations of vulnerability and overcome social and economic challenges.
The initiative is part of OAFLAD's advocacy and mobilization efforts to support projects in areas such as health, education, the prevention and combating of gender-based violence, and the economic empowerment of African women and youth. The gala took place on African Women's Day and was hosted by the First Lady of the Republic of Angola and OAFLAD Vice-President, Ana Dias Louren§o.
Among the dignitaries present was the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, who attended the dinner alongside First Ladies and representatives from OAFLAD partner organizations.
Established in 2019, the Organization of African First Ladies for Development is a continental platform that unites African First Ladies around causes linked to sustainable development and the improvement of living conditions for the population, with a particular focus on women, children, and youth. The organization carries out advocacy, resource mobilization, and partnership-building activities to support responses to the continent's major social and development challenges.
OAFLAD's 2025-2030 Strategic Plan identifies health, education, the prevention of gender-based violence, and the economic empowerment of women and youth as priority areas, aiming to contribute to more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable African societies. Angola is part of the organization's leadership through Ana Dias Louren§o, who serves as OAFLAD Vice-President, reinforcing the country's role in continental initiatives to promote the rights, well-being, and development of African women and girls.
