President Louren§o Expresses Confidence in New Vice-President of Supreme Court

Luanda: The President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o, expressed confidence in the experience and knowledge of the new vice-president of the Supreme Court, Domingos da Costa Mesquita, anticipating a positive contribution to the performance of the sovereign body. Joo Louren§o made these remarks during the swearing-in ceremony, where he congratulated Mesquita on his new role and emphasized the importance of his experience as an assistant to the President of the Supreme Court.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Louren§o underscored that the new vice-president, being an experienced member of the institution, is expected to enhance the Supreme Court's work with his knowledge. The President highlighted the increased responsibilities of the Supreme Court as a superior institution in relation to other courts.

In his final remarks, Joo Louren§o wished Domingos da Costa Mesquita success in his new role. The Supreme Court serves as the highest body in the judicial court hierarchy, handling jurisdictional functions such as reviewing and deciding appeals to ensure the correct application and interpretation of the law. It includes various chambers, such as Criminal, Civil, Administrative, Tax and Customs, and Labor, along with the Plenary.

In another ceremony, the President swore in the new Angolan ambassador to Turkey, Osvaldo dos Santos Varela. Varela, who previously served as Angola's ambassador to Israel and as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, was appointed to his new position by Presidential Decree.

In his remarks to the press, Varela highlighted industry, agro-industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and tourism as key areas for strengthening cooperation between Angola and Turkey. He emphasized the strategic importance of Turkey, situated between Europe and Asia, and its rapidly developing economy. Varela pointed to sectors like the textile, metalworking, and pharmaceutical industries as well as tourism as potential areas for deepening bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation.
