Luanda: Botswana's President Duma Boko will travel on Wednesday (9) to the centre-west Benguela Province, thus marking the final leg of his state visit to Angola. At the military airbase, the Tswana Head of State was bid farewell by various executive branch officials.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Duma Boko's itinerary in Benguela includes a notable visit to the construction site of the Lobito Refinery. During his stay in Angola, after arriving in Luanda, the Tswana leader visited the Republic Square, where he paid tribute to President Ant³nio Agostinho Neto and signed the guestbook. He also visited the Presidential Palace, where he met with his counterpart, Joo Louren§o.
Furthermore, Boko participated in meetings between ministerial delegations, resulting in the signing of several bilateral agreements and visited the National Assembly, where he held a courtesy meeting with the Speaker, Ado de Almeida. Duma Boko also attended the Angola-Botswana Business Forum, advocating for the removal of barriers and the creation of channels to facilitate the free flow of business and trade between the two countries.
Political and diplomatic relations between Angola and Botswana were established in 1975, amidst the wave of African independence and the emergence of new states on the continent. Since then, the two countries have maintained cooperation based on principles of good neighborliness, regional solidarity, and respect for sovereignty.
In the political and diplomatic spheres, the two countries share aligned positions on peace, security, and stability in Southern Africa, within the framework of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), a regional organization of which both are active members. Economically, the two countries are currently strengthening strategic ties, focusing on bilateral economic cooperation, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, diamonds, mining, and tourism.
