Quilonga Water Supply System to Provide Clean Water to Millions

Luanda: At least five million inhabitants of the provinces of Luanda and Icolo e Bengo are set to benefit from a regular supply of drinking water with the completion of the Quilonga Grande Water Supply System by the end of this year.

According to Angola Press News Agency, a note from the Ministry of Energy and Water detailed that the infrastructure, currently under construction in the Bom Jesus region, is one of the Angolan government's most strategic water projects. It aims to meet the growing demand in rapidly urbanizing and industrializing areas.

The Quilonga system is designed with a projected production capacity of 518,000 cubic meters per day. This capacity will be supported by an extensive distribution network and storage centers, enhancing water access for millions. The construction works, including the intake, installation of raw water pipelines, and reservoir construction, are reported to be in advanced stages.

Beyond providing water security to the capital and surrounding areas, the Quilonga system is expected to reduce waterborne diseases and support the region's agricultural and logistical development.
