Luanda: The municipality of Quipungo, in Huíla province, is undergoing a significant transformation with the implementation of an urban and peri-urban road paving program. This initiative covers four kilometers in its initial phase, aiming to revamp the town's infrastructure and boost urban development. According to Angola Press News Agency, the project commenced seven months ago and includes paving, street signage, and sidewalk construction. This first phase is already showing progress and is expected to open new avenues for development in the former Vila Paiva Couceiro. The program is funded by local resources, reflecting the community's investment in its future. The Quipungo Municipal Administration has highlighted that the project, which started in January this year and is executed by the company STATUS, is enhancing mobility conditions. It also reinforces road safety, facilitates access to essential services, and improves the town's overall image. The Municipal Administration also emphasized that this investment marks a significant step in the Government's ongoing efforts to improve living conditions for the local population. It is seen as laying the groundwork for sustainable growth and attracting new investments to the region. Local residents have expressed their satisfaction with the project's progress. Taxi driver Mário Vapor, 35, described the town's new appearance as "a treat" and expressed hopes that the program would extend to the outskirts. Retired resident Olegário Ferreira, 62, remarked that despite living in the municipality since birth, he has never witnessed a project of this scale. Quipungo, with a road network of approximately 125 kilometers, shares its borders with the municipalities of Caluquembe, Cacula, Matala, Gambos, and Chibia. The municipality has a population of 158,918, predominantly comprising the Nyaneka and Umbundo ethno-linguistic groups, alongside a small mixed-race community of Portuguese origin.
