Regional conference on “Youth and the Future” opens in Tunis

The work of the regional conference on “youth and the future” kicked off on Tuesday morning at the Convention Centre in Tunis, in the presence of Minister for Youth and Sport Kamel Deguiche.

The Minister stressed the vital role of young people in shaping and defining a more mature model for the future, one that takes account of the challenges facing the region, notably food security, environmental issues, climate change and technological and economic revolutions.

«The government has begun to draw up a new pact with young people, based on a forward-looking vision that places young people at the heart of its priorities. This reflects the State’s determination to achieve a qualitative leap in the projects and programmes dedicated to them, in coordination with the various government and international partners.

The conference, organised by the National Youth Observatory with the support of the United Nations, will run for two days (July 11 – 12) and will be marked by a series of workshops for young Tunisian and Arab leaders, creators and experts.

Around 300 young volunteers and other actors from Tunisian and Arab civil society are taking part in this conference.
