Sancorp Group Strengthens African Energy Ties as AEW 2026 Platinum Partner

Cape town: Sancorp Group, a prominent energy and commodities trading company headquartered in Dubai, has announced its participation as a Platinum Partner at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, scheduled to take place in Cape Town from October 12-16. This partnership represents the highest tier of association with AEW, underlining the increasing commercial interactions between energy groups based in the Gulf region and the African markets. According to African Press Organization, Sancorp Group is deeply involved in the energy sector across sub-Saharan Africa, engaging in activities ranging from crude oil and refined product trading to upstream asset participation and oilfield services. The group's trading partners include major entities such as Trafigura, Mercuria, Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Dangote Fertilizers, Société Ivoirienne de Raffinage (SIR), PETROCI, the Tema Oil Refinery, and Ghana's Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST). Sancorp has structured investments exceeding $2 billion in the oil and gas sector across Africa. The group's extensive commercial network positions its presence at AEW as a significant opportunity for operators, refineries, and traders aiming to establish or expand supply relationships in West Africa. The Ivory Coast emerges as Sancorp's most active market, with projected annual flows surpassing $600 million, including deliveries of refined products, crude, LPG, and fertilizers to SIR and PETROCI. In a notable operation in July 2026, Sancorp delivered over 36,000 tons of gasoil to SIR's Abidjan terminal. The group also holds a government-certified license for importing and distributing fertilizers in the Ivory Coast, supplying 500,000 bags of urea and NPK annually through the Ministry of Agriculture. In Ghana, Sancorp provided more than 300,000 tons of gasoil and gasoline in 2024. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, its subsidiary SCP Energy maintains NIPEX-certified upstream service capabilities and is a certified export trading counterparty to the Dangote Refinery. Sancorp is al so expanding its operations in Angola, where it is registered with Sonangol and engaged in advanced discussions for minority interests in two deepwater production blocks and an equity stake in one of the country's planned grassroots refineries. For attendees of AEW 2026, Sancorp's model exemplifies the growing Gulf-to-Africa commercial bridge within the continent's energy trading landscape, offering structured finance, physical trading capacity, and an on-the-ground presence across multiple West African markets, all consolidated within a single group. The Platinum Partnership grants Sancorp comprehensive visibility throughout the AEW program, as it aims to enhance its trading book and deepen its upstream and refining positions. He emphasized that Sancorp's active trading, investment, and upstream positions across West Africa create substantial opportunities for operators and governments attending the event.
