Secretary of State Highlights Cooperation with Brazil in Agriculture Sector

Luanda: The Secretary of State for Forestry, Joo Cunha, on Monday in Luanda acknowledged Brazil's support in the development of technical skills in strategic areas of agriculture in Angola. The government official, who was speaking at the opening of the third stage of training of national staff in the area of family farming, referred to the South American country's focus on public policies for storage, quality control, and social supply actions, which can be applied to local needs.

According to Angola Press News Agency, this commitment is part of the South-South cooperation agenda between the two countries. Joo Cunha called for the strengthening of the operationalization of the South-South technical cooperation agreement with the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), focusing on the development of irrigated regions and policies to support family farming, signed in 2022.

He emphasized the need for the continued operationalization of the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Angola and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil, initialed on August 25, 2023. 'Cooperation with Brazil, in the field of agriculture and forestry, is increasingly consolidated by the operationalization of memorandums signed in the sector', he stressed.

Joo Cunha also highlighted the approval of the second National Strategy for Food and Nutrition Security (ENSAN II) 2025-2034, an instrument representing a commitment by the Government to ensure the human right to food, mainly through national production. As for training, he considered it a strategic opportunity to promote the development of the Angolan agricultural sector and strengthen cooperation ties between the two states.

He noted that under the memorandums signed with Angola, several activities have been carried out, with emphasis on the training of Angolan staff in the agricultural sector.

The training aims to share knowledge and train Angolan professionals in strategic areas of agriculture, with a focus on public storage policies, quality control, and social supply actions. The event takes place under the theme 'control and quality of food, cost of production, storage of public stocks and social supply', promoting the Agriculture and Forestry sector in partnership with the National Supply Company of Brazil (CONAB).

The event represents a clear sign of interest and consolidation of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, livestock, and forestry between these countries. For five days, topics such as 'laws, standards and processes for stock storage', 'legal and regulatory foundations, registration management procedure and warehouse contracting' and 'quality control and classification of plant products' will be taught. The seminar is attended by 72 professionals, including agronomists, economists, and directors and heads of department in the agriculture and forestry sector.
