Luanda: A message from South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to his Angolan counterpart, Joo Louren§o, was delivered in Luanda on Monday to the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Cust³dio Vieira Lopes. The message was conveyed by the special envoy of the South Sudanese President, Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit, who was accompanied by the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, James Pitia Morgan.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the contents of the message were not disclosed. However, the meeting included discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Angola and South Sudan, particularly in political and diplomatic, education, and cultural fields.
During the occasion, Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit expressed appreciation for the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) held in Luanda, which focused on enhancing mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution in Africa. The special envoy acknowledged President Joo Louren§o's role in peace and security issues on the continent, highlighting his position as the AU Champion for Peace and Reconciliation.
The meeting also explored the possibility of establishing reciprocal diplomatic missions to enhance representation and dialogue between the two countries. Discussions included the creation of bilateral commissions to monitor areas of cooperation and the potential for high-level visits to fortify political and diplomatic dialogue and friendship between Angola and South Sudan.
Bilateral relations between Angola and South Sudan have been developing since South Sudan's independence on 9 July 2011. A significant milestone in their cooperation was marked on 28 March 2012, in Luanda, with the signing of a Proces-Verbal that set guidelines for bilateral cooperation and initiated negotiations on future cooperation agreements.
Angola and South Sudan continue to engage in political and diplomatic cooperation within the framework of the African Union and the United Nations.
