Kakamega based Soy United FC held visiting Harvest of Hope Africa (HOHA) FC from Busia County, to a barren draw, in a high tempo FKF Division II League zone A football match, played at Ivugwi grounds in Likuyani Sub County.
The Sunday mouthwatering clash, officiated by centre referee Michael Suwanga, saw the two teams register a goalless draw in full time, despite the high stakes from both sides.
HOHA FC dominated the first half through constant and dangerous attacks towards the hosts but none of the efforts bore fruits as three shots by striker Mark Ekael went off target.
In the dying minutes of the first half Soy United goalkeeper Kaunda Neto was called to task when Oscar Masiga fired a crucial shot on target.
In the second half the tide changed with Soy United dominating and ensuring HOHA was on the defensive.
The hosts came closer to getting a breakthrough when a deflected shot on target was parried away by the hawkeyed HOHA goalkeeper Wilson Wabwire.
Their second near chance came when a header by t
he determined Soy strikers found the HOHA defence flatfoot but it hit the crossbar hence sealing their chances of seeing the net.
Speaking after the match, HOHA FC head coach Dennis Bwire said the compact defence set by his players ensured the opponents played on the flanks preventing them from securing a goal despite the unrelenting attack on their home soil.
He however, expressed optimism that his team will register a win in the upcoming fixture to be played against Webuye Sportiff FC, at Busende grounds in Matayos.
Soy United FC head coach Samwel Twago attributed the draw to poor finishing by his forwards, noting that his players created several scoring opportunities they couldn’t convert to goals.
He said: ‘There were so many crosses that went to waste. I expect my players to work extra hard and have a positive mind as we prepare to face Muyayi FC in our upcoming fixture.’
The Chairman HOHA FC Jacquesh Papai said despite injuries the players displayed a wonderful game considering that away fixtures a
re usually difficult.
‘I love the spirit of the players. We will go back to the drawing board to focus on which areas to improve for the team to register a win in the next match,’ he said.
After the weekend FKF Division II League zone A matches Soy United FC is in 2nd position with 31 points while HOHA FC is sitting at position 6 with 26 points.
