Swimming: Angola Reaches Four Finals in African Youth Games

Luanda: The Angolan national swimming team qualified on Friday for four finals on the opening day of the African Youth Games qualifying rounds in Luanda. At 5 p.m., the team will compete for medals in the 100-meter freestyle. Sprinter Santiago Guimaraes will represent Angola in the final, having clocked the sixth-best qualifying time of 55m 73sec.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the team will also compete for gold in the 200-meter butterfly with Daniel Fernandes and Davi Dode. Fernandes finished sixth with a time of 2:39m,48sec, while Dode finished eighth with a time of 2:47.70. The team qualified third in the mixed 4x100-meter freestyle relay with Santiago Guimaraes, Rhanya Santo, Daniel Fernandes, and Maria Parimbello.

The finals will take place at 5 p.m. Rhanya Santos will compete in the women's 1500m, and Santiago Guimaraes will compete in the 800m. South Africa was the most outstanding country in this opening round, reaching eight finals.
